SUPERpave Mix Design Course

The purpose of this Course is to provide engineers, testing personnel, and inspectors a basic understanding of the asphalt mix design process. This will be accomplished through a review of materials specifications, test procedures, and general mix design requirements for a Superpave mix design and will include hands-on training using standard test procedures and specification criteria. Upon completion, attendees will be able to develop a volumetric mix design in their laboratories. The primary focus of the course will be on the Superpave mix design system.

superpave binder testing course

The attendee will learn how to analyze test results and determine specification compliance for Superpave Performance Graded (PG) binders. Equipment such as the Rotational Viscometer (RV), Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR), Rolling Thin-Film Oven (RTFO), Pressure Aging Vessel (PAV) and Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR) will be used in the course. The course will provide background information on the development of binder grading systems and test procedures and present step-by-step descriptions of test methods used in the Superpave binder system.
